Hi everyone, im new to this, i was a vegitarian for 6 years, started eating meat 4 years ago then over the last year after keeping ex bat chickens i went vegitarian again, after nearly two years of being very ill with terrible stomach pains and being sick i was told i needed a laproscopy to see what was wrong with my womb, had that but they found nothing, i become worse and was on many painkillers, after passing out with the pain i was sent back for more tests and they decided it was problems with my womb and fellopian tubes and was told i needed a hystorectomy, this was a terrile decition to make but couldnt cope with the pain anymore, had the op only for find out my problems hadnt gone away, im 43 and going through the change of life, and have been told they have misdiognosed me, saw a bowel specialist and was tested for bowel cancer, i was told i was clear so it must be ibs, i was diognosed with that when i was 19 and have never had the problems i now have, eventually i had an endoscopy and was told i had ceoliacs, all this suffering and opperations for nothing, now somehow i have to get through this but am struggling, ive tried some of the gluten free foods and hate them, how do i get through this? is anyone else struggling?

also, corn cakes are delicious and cinnamon and apple pancakes by orgran are my sunday breakfast treat. other favourite foods include burgers and sausages by dragonfly. tesco also do beanburgers and mushroom burgers. at xmas i had some really lovely bread from tesco. can't remember the name but it looked like a real loaf of bread (in transparent plastic bag) and tasted pretty darn good. it's the first of the gluten free breads that i've actually been able to eat as bread. the last 6 years i've had to toast every slice of bread i've eaten. it made a nice change...

Alan have you tried quinoa or amaranth? They are both gluten free pseudograins that are high in protein. And of course there are always protein (hemp, rice, soy, pea) isolates to add to smoothies if you want to go that route.

Hiya, I'm from Melbourne, Australia and I've been vegan for about 6-7 years and recently found out that I have coeliac's disease. It come as a surprise since I didn't have typical reactions, mine tended to be nausea, and occasional vomiting rather than bloating and bowel issues. I'm finding breakfast the hardest at the moment, since most of the g/f cereals that I have tried appear to either leave me hungry, or don't taste good or are too hard. Are there other Aussies on here?

Hi alan, thankyou for your reply, i have written down the foods you have suggested and will get them on prescription and try them i made a cake the other day and a loaf of bread, the cake was awful, had an awfull texture and was bitter, the bread was weird but not bad, taisted a little bit like cake and bread rolled into one, it was nice and soft but a little swet so i will try again and this time not add as much sugar. Im a vegi so cant have meat, used to eat quorn but that contains gluten so cant have that, tried torfu but hated it so i havent got any meat replacements at the moment, just living on veg and gf pasta from tesco which is nice, do you have any meat free suggestions? take care |

Well lets see I am 35 years old and today is the first day I have eaten a vegan and gluten free. I also cannot eat any cane sugar, maple syrup. Was told I could use agava, stevia, and something that starts with an x. My doctor suggested it since I have been going through an allergic reaction overload. This is really new to me but I am ready to try anything and if I feel better I will keep it up. I have 3 boys 12years old, 6 years old and 5 years old. They really hope this works. I have been having frequent visits to the ER because of severe allergic reactions and then I am wore out for days afterwards. I can hardly get up for work and just want to sleep when I get home. Ok so enough whining! I am excited to start this new journey and I can't wait until I start feeling better. |

Hi everyone, Well first things first, i guess i'd better confess to not being a vegan....or even a vegetarian for that matter....sorry! I have recently got results to a number of food intolerance/allergy tests and although i suspected i was going to get a positive for gluten allergy & was prepared for that i was not suspecting the rest.... No dairy, eggs or yeast for me (& no more chicken or duck either you'll be glad to hear). So while i am not vegan you can maybe see why i wanted to join. Everytime i think i've found a gluten-free alternative to things i love, i discover it has eggs, or milk or yeast in it so i'm hoping somebody here will have some helpful tips for me. Anything that'll make things easier, especially seeing as the yeast flag now means no more wine to ease the pains either! |

i believe what raw vegans believe(ani phyo all the way!!!). i was trying to do raw vegan infact but its a bit too indepth at this time for me so i am seriously attempting to be gf vegan. anyways i study nutrition and i do believe we were not meant to consume flour and we all have allergic reaction to flour whether or not we can feel it. thats just meee and of course im sick all the time (yet dont put down the veggie chicken sammies..) so maybe im biased??? lol
