Default GF Alcohol

So, everytime I go to a bar I have to order the same drinks. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good mixed drinks that are GF? Anything w vodka is out. I know there are GF vodkas, but the fact is most bars don't have em or they just don't want the hassle of having to look for the ones that are. I'm so sick of drinking the same drinks...help!

I just had an epiphany in this thread. My dad had always told me that vodka was made from potatoes so I was safe. But now I learn that not all vodkas are made from potatoes!

Now I know why I have issues the day after I drink at the bar. I just thought it was "too much booze" but it is probably the vodka. D'oh!!!

Ok I tried to do a little online research on this, and most sources say that the distillation process for liquors removes the gluten. One site even had written responses from liquor companies stating that their vokas and such were certified gluten free. That even if the process starts as distilling from wheat, the gluten is removed in the process.

Does anyone else have any research on this? I'm confused now.

The literature that I have from the Celiac foundation states that white vinegar is not safe, nor is distilled vinegar, both contain gluten. The only vinegars that are ok to use are apple cider and wine vinegar. I know that vinegar is not an alcoholic beverage, but if the distilling process doesn't make it safe, it probably won't make the alcholic beverages safe either.

It would be best to contact your doctor, because celiac disease is not something to play around with. Get an updated list of which alcoholic beverages contain gluten, and which do not.

Default Gin

Hi everyone, I have researched this a lot and supposedly all liquors are GF. (because of distillation) There are also potato vodkas out there, but they make me feel awful. I stick with Beefeaters Gin. I have problems with wine making me feel sick too. Just hung over feeling. I never feel hung over with Beefeaters no matter how much I drink of it. Experiment and stick with the one that works for you. My son, also celiac was a bar tender and the only time gluten came into the picture was when you drink flavored liquors, like a flavored vodka or rum....good luck.

Well, I heard the same thing about the distillation process, but EVERYtime I drank vodka I'd get sick (unless it was potato vodka). I drink mixed drinks and never get sick from jeigermeister and red bull, amaretto sour, malibu and pineapple juice (malibu, not malibu rum). Maker's Mark whiskey is GF, but gross. Any liqueur is fine like Frangelica, Bailey's, any Chocolate liqueur. What I really want to know is what drink recipes are there for these liqueur's that are safe. Most bartenders will mix whatever you ask them to, I've just run out of ideas for new drinks.

Actually on one of the web sites I found it had a written response from the makers of Godiva Chocolate Liquors stating that they are NOT gluten free...

I can't vouch for the validity of the information on this website, but here is what I was referring to: Alcohol
