Count Chocula is not produced with any gluten ingredients, such as wheat, but it is not labelled or certified gluten free. This is because there is a possibility of trace amounts of gluten in Count Chocula through other ingredients or cross contamination. 

Anyone with a strong sensitivity or allergy to gluten or someone with celiac disease should avoid eating Count Chocula cereal. The box does say there is a slight possibility that there may be traces of wheat in the cereal, despite there being no wheat intentionally added.

The other Monster cereal launched at the same time was Franken Berry. Boo Berry was then launched a year later. The Count Chocula character was originally designed by George Carn, who also drew the famous Trix rabbit. Count Chocula has been reimagined over the years, including by artists who have worked with DC and Marvel Comics. The character also appeared with other monsters created by General Mills in some memorable commercials and other media. 

The character of Count Chocula was, of course, based off of the infamous Dracula character. While he is a traditionally scary character, Count Chocula and his friends Boo Berry and Frankenberry are comical and silly in order to appeal to children.

Count Chocula features chocolatey cereal pieces that are shaped like Count Chocula’s head. There are also marshmallows shaped like bats sprinkled in with the cereal pieces. 

The chocolate flavor is pretty mild, but it is not too sweet. The marshmallows do add a little bit more sweetness to the mix. The texture difference between the hard cereal pieces and the softer marshmallows are interesting to the palette. If you add milk to the bowl, it also produces chocolatey milk at the end.

Some have said the flavor of Count Chocula has changed from what it used to be because the cereal pieces used to be made with oat-based ingredients rather than corn-based ingredients. 

The cereal tends to only be released around Halloween, making it a hot commodity for children and nostalgic adults alike.
