Tony Chachere was an American chef and businessman who created a famous line of creole blend seasonings and spices. He was the first chef inducted into the Louisiana Chefs Hall of Fame.

In 1905 Tony Chachere was born in Opelousas, Louisiana. At the age of 30, he’d created his own wholesale drug business, the Louisiana Drug Company (LADCO). At LADCO he was creating elixirs and promising relief from common ailments.

When Chachere retired at age 50, LADCO was then a multi-million dollar company. Two years after retiring, Chachere returned to the workforce selling life insurance. For 13 years, Chachere made the Millionaires Club at Equitable Life Insurance Society before retiring a second time at age 65.

In the early 1970’s after his second retirement, Chachere turned to writing to solve his boredom. Drawing on a life of cooking for his family and friends, Tony authored the Cajun Country Cookbook to wild success. The book featured his recipe for a creole seasoning that was internationally celebrated.

Tony Chachere started Tony Chachere’s Creole Foods in response to the success of his cookbook and seasoning blend. From 1972 until his third retirement in 1981 Tony was heavily involved in the daily operations in the company.

Today Tony Chachere’s Creole Foods is owned and operated by his grandson, Don Chachere. The company today includes the original creole seasoning blend along with sauces, marinades, batters, and frozen foods.

There are currently no gluten-free labeled options under the Tony Chachere’s brand. Although the marinades and sauces contain no gluten, there is a continued risk of cross contamination throughout the packaging process.
