What is Aldi’s?
Aldi is a discount supermarket which was founded by Karl and Theo Albrecht. The brothers’ mother was a local baker who opened a small store when the brothers were small. After growing up in the bakery, the brothers decided to open their own store a few miles away.
The store that the Albrecht brothers opened had the main goal of undercutting their competitors by automatically deducting the 3% rebate that food producers gave to shoppers. They kept their stores small, stocking on items that proved to sell.

In 1960 the brothers split the company. This came after a dispute on whether to have the store sell cigarettes. Karl felt that selling the cigarettes would bring thieves and shoplifters while Theo felt otherwise. The company split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud.
Aldi’s in America
In 1976 the first Aldi came to the United States, opening in Iowa. From there a rapid expansion took way and Aldi’s continues to operate in almost every State.
